(塩見岳) Mt. Shiomi Hike

塩 means salt, and 見 means seeing. So this mountain means... Seeing Salt? Salt View? Either way, wikipedia has failed me on the history of this hike, but here's the logistics as far as I can see.

When to Go
Anytime during the year - but prepare for full on winter hike, and most of them used 鳥倉登山口 as trailhead. One log here

    • 二軒小屋. Really a trailhead for Mt. Akaishi. I'll link Mt. Akaishi's blog post later on. From here to Mt. Shiomi's summit is around 12.2kilometers, with an elevation change of ▲2114m/ ▽449m (10.5 hours one way). This hike is only possible if staying at a paid mountain hut near the summit (塩見小屋).
  • Mountain huts.
    • Paid.
      • 塩見小屋, about an hour from the trailhead, no camping spot. JPY9,000 with meals, JPY6,000 no meals. People without reservations pay an additional 500 yen.
      • 三伏峠小屋, about 5 hours from the summit (so maybe a third of the hike in?).

      • 塩見小屋, about an hour from the trailhead, no camping spot, turns into an emergency hut outside of hiking season. The entrance is at the door to the right side of the main building. However, getting in is difficult from January to May given the snow pile.
